Are you using real squirrel hair in one video and then painting a squirrel in another? Or is this synthetic? For anyone thinking of trying squirrel just imagine how it feels to be trapped in the wild and often skinned alive after being stuck in a trap for days, or else kept on massive fur farms with non existent animal rights or any protection and in tiny cages with no floors in them so your little feet grip on night and day, piled on top of other squirrels in a highly stressful environment. For a paintbrush. Squirrels are mammals. They developed their nervous system and emotions at the same time in history as us, before we branched off into our respective species. They feel what we do. Is that torture worth a paintbrush? Synthetic squirrel is pretty good nowadays and will only get better the more demand there is. If you disagree with fur in fashion remember that this is also fur.

The rendering is very beautiful! I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I think the eye on our right is a bit off. The left eye is very focused on the camera, but the other one is looking somewhere else.

Recently, I discovered that if the notebook is dotted, it’s not so scary to use it XD. It already has marks on it, so I can’t make it worse 😀

As someone who’s an ambivert, I find drawing in public motivates me to practice, especially at coffee shops. It feels like I’m actually doing something lol. Drawing at home makes me feel cabin fever after a while. It also might create opportunities for commissions if people see your work

I usually aim for 10-15 minutes a day, and then painting on the weekends. Only thing I kinda disagree with is “not drawing in sketchbooks”, but only because I like having a chronological record of my progress and I don’t like having loose sheets of paper laying around. Also I take my sketchbook everywhere so I can draw when I’m bored wherever I am.

For anyone who has drawn a lot on printer paper and would like to move to a sketchbook, but is a perfectionist - maybe this might help you as well: What worked for me was to have a sketchbook dedicated to making a mess and trying anything without the expectations of it looking good. I called it "Messbook" and wrote that title in bold, unplanned lettering on the sacred first spread to break it in. It felt uncomfortable in the beginning, but the more I've been doodling in it the more I have discovered about art, my materials and ideas as well, and I am surprised to report that I lost my fear of drawing in books completely by now. I now have sketchbooks dedicated to different mediums or themes (master studies, my worldbuilding project, concept ideas for finished pieces) that I move between depending on what I want to do. This eliminates my fear of "dropping the ball" on any of them because none of them have a linear date/time progression amymore 😂

it really helps the fluidity of being able to draw, if i don’t draw for a few days it always takes too many hours to get back into it

A tip regarding sketchbooks: I draw on random pieces of paper, whatever I have on hand. It really is way less intimidating than having this pristine book that you're too scared to touch. BUT you can just cut out the drawings and doodles that you're proud of or that you like for whatever reason and glue them in a dedicated notebook. That way you can still have a collection of your daily work and something you can look back on and see your improvement.
